Student Stories

Hearing encouraging and positive experiences from students who attend Shepherds College is helpful. Understanding how much your peers are learning academically, socially and spiritually will make you excited to come here too.

We asked students to share something they are learning in classes or something that they like about Shepherds College. Below are some responses:

"I learned how to do reports and how to use the computer." ~ Brian

"One thing I learned about myself is how to have a positive attitude.  I learned how to be a team player, and that I am a good encourager." ~ Jessica

"I like the Bible survey classes (Old Testament & New Testament). You go in-depth and not just on the surface." ~ Gloria

"I learned that you better not give up because the teachers keep after you. I like the challenge. I enjoy Computer Class because they explain stuff to me. {The teachers} have patience for me." ~ Scott

"One thing I learned is that I should listen to teachers. I learned that my strength is Relator - I connect with people." ~ Nikki

"I can serve others.  I vacuumed the nursing station and helped a friend pick up cardboard." ~ Melissa

"I learned how to do multiplication and division with help.  I learned how to add and subtract money in my checkbook and how to double-check to see if I missed anything in my bank statement." ~ Rachel

"My favorite teacher is Miss Luchterhand. She's cool. She likes sports and a lot of things I like. We find things in common, like she's really good with computers. She's easy to get along with. Shepherds College has taught me to live better and to have more of a focus on my education, relationships and Christian life. Appropriate Independence helps me try to do things that seem challenging with my disability, but I find other ways to do them. It makes me feel successful. It's interesting getting to know my roommate. I learned how to share an apartment with him and how to adjust to his work habits. It's helped me get to know him better. All my classes are really interesting. They're hard and challenging, but it's fun to learn this kind of stuff."  ~ Seth
