At Shepherds College, students live in an environment that is designed to promote their emotional, spiritual, and intellectual growth. Each day, they are growing toward independence in many areas of their lives. Residential Life at Shepherds College provides students with opportunities to build lasting friendships, explore their community, and serve others. Residential Life goes way beyond homework and house cleaning. They enjoy activities both during the week and on weekends that allow them to form relationships with each other and with members of their community.
Once a week, the students sit down either by themselves or with their roommate and establish a menu for their meals. They write a shopping list using their menus, and travel to Wal-Mart to purchase the items they need for the week. They do a wonderful job of loading and unloading the cart and putting groceries away in their apartments. After they have all the ingredients, the students are able to put their class skills to work by making their own meals. On Thursdays, they prepare a meal in Cooking Class and eat together in the Shepherds College kitchen.
Each month, students and clients in the Catalyst program at Shepherds participate in Activity Night. Students play games together and enjoy snacks while getting to know each other better.
The students develop an understanding of service by doing volunteer work such as cleaning local churches. They also engage in projects like raking leaves for the residents of Union Grove, cleaning local recreation areas, or speaking with visitors about their experience at Shepherds College.
Students here grow spiritually. They can attend a local church where they hear God's Word and are encouraged to share the love of Christ to others. Weekly, the ladies have a Bible study especially designed for young women. The men study separately with a male Bible study leader. On Wednesdays, both men and women gather together for Group Bible Study where they study the Word and openly talk about their thoughts on it. The students learn that they have a lot of responsibility as young men and women and God wants to do amazing things through each of them.
The students have the opportunity to participate in Special Olympics! They join teams like bowling or basketball which allows the students to stay healthy and fit and also to minister and show God's love to people all over Wisconsin at games.
Other kinds of things include taking field trips to see movies and historical sites, serving others at AWANA, community service activities and playing sports with one another. New activities get introduced to the students all the time, so there is never a dull moment!
